About
Willem van Schalkwyk sells farms in the Free State and Northern Cape from Jacobsdal, where his family has farmed for thirty years. He has farmed himself: lucerne under pivots, sheep and cattle. Before property he spent thirty-five years in transport and logistics, starting as an owner-driver, building his own fleet to forty trucks, and later taking over an eighty-truck, one hundred and sixty driver coal contract and turning it around. He has traded commodities and been a director of four companies. That is why a farmer can talk to him plainly. He knows what it costs to get a crop off the land and to market, what a pivot will actually deliver rather than what it is said to deliver, and how a farm has to keep paying its way while it is on the market. He has signed the cheques and driven the road himself. His area follows the Orange River and the Vaalharts irrigation belt: Jacobsdal, Luckhoff, Fauresmith, Koffiefontein, Douglas, Hopetown, Prieska, Kimberley, Barkly West, Warrenton, Jan Kempdorp, Hartswater, Ulco, Christiana and the Ghaap Plateau. He works as a candidate property practitioner under Louise Fourie, PPRA-registered principal (FFC 0006393), while his own Fidelity Fund Certificate application is with the Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority.
